It's obvious when one thinks about it. But...
...one obviously does not think about it.
...one does not think obviously about it.
...it obviously is not something one wants to think about.

  Why "Unplugged Portal"?

* Talk of technology is frought with hype, smoke and mirrors. And often takes over common sense.

* What you hear/see/read is often incomplete; is there a hidden agenda?

* Journalists are often like freshly-squeezed oranges: their bosses have them scanning what everyone else is writing about and then they have no juice left to do good-faithed investigative journalism

* They're always another angle - for which no one holds a monopoly - that makes a story more interesting. Getting that view is enriching.

* Since many readers will probably be from North America, here's an attempt to strech the thinking to the other side of the pond.

* Anything else which strikes me to be valid enough to publish

  Why bother?

Good question.

The 'enrichment' view makes me say that one is better off having developped a chiave di lettura - a key for deciphering messages. Some sites referred to on the left do this; I'm just adding my grain of salt.

If no one ever speaks up, somebody (whether it be a physical or moral being) may be getting away with something huge.

  Why unplugged?

A dash of humour, a pinch of cynicism and not taking it too seriously are healthy survival tactics IMHO.
