It's obvious when one thinks about it. But...
...one obviously does not think about it.
...one does not think obviously about it.
...it obviously is not something one wants to think about.

A Clue to the Differences Between Bush & Gore
Or should that title read: 'No Clue...'

Generally, markets hate uncertainty and discount it heavily in their prices. The nation's (the world's?) top seat is up for grabs, with no end in sight until at least november 17 (Friday the 17th is bad luck in Italy, for whom it matters)... And yet the markets, notwithstanding NASDAQ's 5% hit yesterday, are calm.

They don't seem to care. To them, the candidates are interchangeable!

Rattle the Cage a Bit More...
"It seems to me that these 3,000 votes people are talking about -- most of those are probably not my vote and that may be enough to give the margin to Mr. Gore". These words are attributed to Pat Buchanan himself...

Either he has a bone to pick with Bush and the Republican party or he is attempting to shoot straight. In any instance, this means the whole story is far, far from over.

Hah! Even the producers of Dallas could not come up with such a twisted plot!

Numbers of the Nader Effect
Real influence? Nader sustains that 40% of their votes would not have come from Gore supporters. His admitted strategy was to get young non-voters. Granted. What he does not say is that the remaining 60% would certainly not have come from Bush supporters. Look at the following numbers:
State Electoral college votesNader votes% of totaldifference between Gore and Bush votes
New Hampshire422,15647,282
Oregon756,264525,859
Florida2596,91521,784

Shift 60% of Nader votes in New Hampshire & Oregon into Gore's camp and the whole Florida mess would be a non-issue: Gore would have 271 electoral college votes, excluding Florida.

Nader almost impacted Nevada & Ohio (narrowly won by Bush), New Mexico & Wisconsin (narrow wins by Gore). He also picked up 10% of the vote in Alaska. This cannot be ignored in the future...
